A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse that provides primary care to patients in the outpatient setting. It has been increasingly said that NPs play an essential role in patients’ health. They take medical histories, perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat acute conditions, and counsel on chronic diseases. NPS works collaboratively with other healthcare providers in the team-based approach to patient care. As a result, many patients have now turned to work with nurse practitioners to access better healthcare. This article looks at some of the different procedures a nurse practitioner in Humble, TX can provide. Read on for more.

    • Wound Care

If you were to suffer a cut or an open wound, would you be able to treat it yourself? If not, then this is one of the reasons why you need a nurse practitioner. Wound care involves taking proper and appropriate measures to heal faster. With the help of a nurse practitioner, your chances of preventing infection and promoting faster healing of the wound are high. Using medication given by a nurse practitioner, you will be able to speed up the healing process of your cut or open wound.

    • Geriatric Care

The United States has an aging population, which means a growing number of senior care is required. It’s been predicted that close to 20 million individuals aged 65 years and older by the year 2025. As such, you need a qualified nurse practitioner if you would like to provide good geriatric care. Although not all NP s can give this type of care, do your research and find out what’s available in your area.

    • Diabetes Care

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes. If you are part of this statistic, you should work with an NP to manage your condition. NPS is constantly receiving additional training to help patients better control their blood sugar levels. They provide education to patients to make the necessary lifestyle changes that are usually required for reasonable diabetes control.

    • Vaccination and Immunization

Vaccinations are essential for good health and the prevention of disease. If you want to be vaccinated or receive immunization, make sure you work with an NP. They can help prepare your body against certain conditions by administering vaccines or other types of injections. This helps your body fight off certain diseases before they start.

    • X-Rays

X-ray technicians are the individuals who are usually in charge of taking x-rays when you visit a hospital or clinic. The images that they produce are then sent to a radiologist for interpretation. If you work with an NP, they may do this on their own. This means you don’t have to wait any longer for your x-ray results to be interpreted. Make sure you work only with an NP who has the proper credentials and training before you allow them to take your x-rays.

In summary, nurse practitioners are playing an ever-increasing role in health care. You must know precisely what they can offer to ensure you get the best services possible. They conduct wound care, immunization, senior care, diabetes management, and x-rays.
