Sleep apnea is a disorder that can cause breathing problems. Sleep apnea can cause your breathing to stop when you are sleeping. When breathing stops, your brain reacts by waking you to help you start breathing. Sleep apnea can disrupt healthy and restful sleep. If you have noticed yourself snoring loudly and feeling tired even after eight hours of sleep, you likely have sleep apnea.

There are multiple reasons why sleep apnea may occur. You can consider dental sleep medicine cooper city fl, if you need help to cope with sleep apnea. If you want to cope with sleep apnea and treat it, it will be essential for you to understand common symptoms. By understanding these symptoms, you can better treat sleep apnea and reduce problems such as trouble sleeping and difficulties in breathing.

Common symptoms of sleep apnea you should be aware of:

    • Waking up repeatedly during sleep

When you have sleep apnea, you will likely wake up more frequently in the middle of the night. Due to sleep apnea, your breathing will stop abruptly, which will cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. However, it can be tough to notice such a symptom as most people do not remember waking up.

    • Infrequent breathing patterns

Sleep apnea can cause unusual and infrequent breathing patterns. For example, Cheyne-Stokes breathing (CSB) is a pattern that can occur when experiencing central sleep apnea. CSB can be the primary reason behind fast breathing, which gets deeper until your breathing stops entirely. Once your breathing stops, you will start breathing again, then stop breathing and keep repeating the pattern due to sleep apnea and CSB.

    • Insomnia

Sleep apnea can also result in insomnia. Due to the breathing problems from sleep apnea, insomnia can result in insomnia. You can likely need help falling asleep or staying asleep. You will also need help in getting quality sleep. Even if you have a comfortable bed, a sound environment, and proper conditions to sleep, you will likely face insomnia.

Apart from the symptoms mentioned above, below are some of the other symptoms you should look out for:

    • Waking up with a dry mouth
    • Waking up with a headache
    • Gasping for air after falling asleep
    • Sweating while sleeping
    • Feeling restless at night
    • Sexual dysfunction in some cases

You should see a doctor if you start experiencing any of the symptoms above. If you neglect to see a doctor, your condition can worsen, and you may face sleeping disorders such as sleep apnea. You should also consult a dentist as sleep apnea is connected to our dental health.
